Reorganizing the delivery of library services to distance education students

The Distance Education Library Services committee at HCCS has recently had to reimagine the manner in which we deliver library services to DE students. We achieved our goals by harnessing the power of RSS and blogware to find new ways to reach our students, including enabling faculty to pull library-related content directly into WebCT. See "A Foot in the Door" for some specifics, though the project has evolved quite a bit since the publication of that paper.

As a member of the newly formed HCCS Libraries Web Committee, I was the primary designer for the redesign of the HCCS library web site. The new design is styled and laid out using CSS and meets accessibility standards. For perspective, the old site can be viewed here, via the Wayback Machine.

The Patagonia Public Library is one of the primary community centers in the rural town of Patagnoia, Arizona, and this site was designed to mirror that role.  The site is still in progress.  I redesigned the site using the WordPress publishing platform, which allows the library director a web-based interface with which she can publish upcoming events, additions to the collection, and more with minimal knowledge of HTML and web design.  I am also providing ongoing consulting as the staff of the PPL become familiar with the interface.
